What is Vote Report India?
Vote Report India (votereport.in) will be a crowdsourced election monitoring platform. We'll aggregate all the news reports, blog posts, photos, videos and tweets, plus user SMSes, about the elections, in one place, on an interactive map. This can be used to track the campaigns leading up to the elections, the voting experience and the irregularities on the election day itself, and the reactions to the results. The platform will give us the most complete picture of public opinion in India during the elections and also act as an important transparency initiative.
Vote Report India is a result of collaboration between two path-breaking non-profit open-source projects: Ushahidi and TwitterVoteReport. Ushahidi is an award-winning GIS-SMS mashup that aggregates news from multiple sources (including SMSes) during emerging conflict situations on an interactive map. It has been in the thick of news for its work in Kenya, Congo, South Africa and Gaza (with Al Jajeera). TwitterVoteReport had deployed a simpler version of the Vote Report India platform in the recent US elections, with great success.
